COMMENTARY: ARE YOU A SPIRITUALIST?
Many people who are "spiritual but not religious" have a lot in common with Spiritualists. They may not even be aware that there is a church/ science/ philosophy that
teaches that there is life after death but rejects the concept of eternal punishment and demonstrates that it is possible to connect with the "dead" through mediums.
The 7 guiding principles of Spiritualism are a sane and non-dogmatic expression of being spiritual but not religious. There is no creed and people are at liberty to interpret the principles in a way that works for them. But having Spiritualism formally recognised as a religion has been important in some contexts as it offers legal and social protection for the practice of mediumship and spiritual healing. At a time before the Internet and New Age bookshops, Spiritualist churches and newspapers were one of the few places where people could learn about the philosophy and science of Spiritualism and spiritual healing.
Having a place where people can come together physically to demonstrate and develop mediumship and share experiences of the afterlife has been very important to many and even today offers a community of like-minded explorers of the paranormal. Read more about Spiritualism in the world today.
A SPIRITUALIST FUNERAL In Arthur Findlay's brilliant book "The Rock of Truth, Or Spiritualism, The Coming World Religion", he described his experience attending a traditional Christian funeral and compared it to a Spiritualist funeral where:
"There it is all brightness, knowledge instead of hope, praise that the etheric body is liberated into a fuller life. Clairvoyants present see many friends on the other side who have come back, often bringing with them the one whose physical body is being buried.
The knowledge of what death really is, is accepted as a matter of course, and the expectation is expressed that the departed will be back again soon through some medium to report his safe arrival on the further shore. There is no mourning, no black, as all is understood. Death is known to be but a step round a bend in the road of life, and, this being so, there are no vain repetitions from ancient documents which mean nothing." pp. 290-291.

INTERVIEW WITH LEADING ITC RESEARCHER DR. ANABELA CARDOSO Dr. Cardoso, author of Electronic Voices, Contact with Another Dimension, describes some of her motives for using the "direct radio voice" method to explore unknown domains of reality.
She has carried out hundreds of conversations with communicators who identify themselves as her deceased family members, as well as other unknown personalities who claim to speak from a dimension beyond time. THE FASCINATING AFTERLIFE RESEARCH OF JAMES HEWAT McKENZIE
After a personal encounter with a psychic medium, James Hewat McKenzie (1869-1929) took a year's leave from his practice as a psychologist and psychoanalyst in 1900. He spent the next 29 years studying mediumship and experimenting with some of the greatest physical and trance mediums of the early 20th century. He spent many years touring and lecturing in the United States, both seeking and studying mediums.
In 1920 he founded the British College of Psychic Science as a center for information, advice, and guidance, where psychic mediums of good reputation could be consulted, and where scientific research into psychic phenomena could take place. His book has wonderful chapters on physical mediumship and a section that describes the afterlife in very similar terms to those used in Anthony Borgia's "Life in the World Unseen." CHILDREN SOMETIMES SEE LOVED ONES IN SPIRIT
These days many more people accept that children may have a strong connection with spirit and communicate with deceased loved ones more easily than adults can. Here is a video explaining how a four-year-old child regularly talked to her father and his friends after they were killed in the 9/11 tragedy.
CAN PARANORMAL RAPS BE FAKED?
Knocking noises which appear to have no physical cause have been a feature of spirit communication since at least 1848 with the Fox Sisters. They are often heard in poltergeist cases. Dr. Barrie Colvin, Ph.D. has analysed recordings of alleged poltergeist knocking obtained from around the world over 40 years. The sample involved 10 separate recordings made on different recording apparatus.
Whilst the two types of raps sound rather similar, computerised analysis shows that they are acoustically different. In each of the allegedly paranormal recordings, regardless of the place or time of the recording, and even of the recording apparatus, a particular sound pattern is detected which so far remains unexplained.
