COMMENTARY: WHAT IS SPIRITUALISM?
Many people are not aware that there is a church/ science/ philosophy that teaches that there is life after death, looks for evidence through the work of mediums, rejects the concept of eternal punishment, and encourages people to think for themselves.
The National Spiritualist Association of Churches (NSAC) founded in 1883 is one of the oldest and largest national Spiritualist church organizations in the United States. It has an excellent website that examines the contribution of Spiritualism as a science, a philosophy, and a religion.
It defines a Spiritualist as "one who believes in the communication between this and the Spirit World by means of mediumship and who endeavors to mold his or her character and conduct in accordance with the highest teachings derived from such communication".
The 7 guiding principles of Spiritualism are a sane and non-dogmatic expression of the beliefs of those who are spiritual but not religious. There is no creed and people are at liberty to interpret the principles in any way that works for them. Having Spiritualism formally recognised as a religion has been important in some cultures as it can offer legal and social protection for the practice of mediumship and spiritual healing from persecution by those who see it as "the work of the devil". At the Spiritualist funeral, instead of everybody dressing in black and weeping, "There it is all brightness, knowledge instead of hope, praise that the etheric body is liberated into a fuller life. Clairvoyants present see many friends on the other side who have come back, often bringing with them the one whose physical body is being buried. BRILLIANT BOOKS ON HISTORIC SPIRITUALISM
Many people don't realise that Spiritualism started with physical mediumship, initially raps and taps and table tipping to form a code to answer questions. Later it progressed to materialisation and direct voice mediumship. N. Riley Heagerty has been researching historic spiritualism and mediumship for over three decades and has concentrated on the physical phenomena attending the great mediums who manifested their gifts within what he refers to as the “Century of Wonders ” between 1848 and 1948.
END OF LIFE EXPERIENCES In all cultures, more than 50% of the people who are conscious while dying say that they see their deceased loved ones waiting for them. Sometimes they say that they can see beautiful places in the spirit world and hear beautiful music. Becki Hawkins, a hospice nurse and a chaplain, is the author of "Transitions: A Nurse's Education About Life And Death". She sat by the bedside of seriously ill and terminally ill patients for more than 30 years as an oncology and hospice nurse. During that time, she listened to patients describe various kinds of spiritual experiences, including near-death experiences.
MEDIUM AT AGE 11 SPOKE WAY BEYOND HER YEARS
Cora Richmond became a trance medium at age 11. RECORDINGS OF PEOPLE LIVING IN THE AFTERLIFE
The most compelling evidence of life after death is the recordings we have today of people now living in the afterlife speaking to people who knew them when they were on Earth. Today, we have thousands of these recordings. The recordings show the person in the afterlife has all the characteristics of the person who lived on Earth, such as voice characteristics and reminiscences about things the people experienced with the person in the afterlife. They are proof beyond a reasonable doubt we live on after the body dies.
