A Report from the Antipodes

David Thompson, Spiritualist Medium, began his visit to Adelaide with a public demonstration of mental mediumship before an audience of more than 120. For over an hour he amazed his audience with the power and accuracy of his connection with spirit as he proved to all survival of the human spirit over that which we call death, Yes, there were fathers and mothers, grandparents and uncles who stood beside him and spoke the words passed on by David that proved their continued existence, but there were also animals, immediately recognised, that made their presence felt.

David began with a message to a woman in her forties. He spoke of a man by the name of George, and he made clear with every word just how well he could hear and see this man. Every sentence was met with a resounding ‘Yes’, a pattern that was to be repeated over and over throughout the evening. George spoke of many personal matters, and ended his message to his relative with a specific reference to a topic that only she could know and understand was both relevant and deeply meaningful. Indeed, the parting remark was the ultimate proof for the receiver.

On, and on through the evening, David demonstrated the purity of his connection with the world of spirit. There was the dog, small and wiry that kept sniffing his trousers, and who belonged to a much loved relative that spoke of personal matters that brought encouragement to the person seated in the room. There was the guide dog that came with the blind person who was immediately recognised by another member of the audience.

There was the father of another attendee, who unknown to David was a practising medium and the leader of one of Adelaide’s outer suburbs Spiritualist churches, who spoke of his wife, still in the physical, and who though elderly and frail is still cared for by the attendee.

Not once did he falter. Not once was he wrong. Clear and certain, message after message was delivered.

Then came Saturday, and David ran a workshop on the ‘Mechanics of Mediumship’, attended by 30, many of whom were platform mediums. David shared his knowledge of mediumship, and of how to connect to those who inhabit the spirit realms. He taught the participants, how to sense and know that spirit people were present and how to listen, tune in to hear them, and pass their messages on. Many stood and tested their skills. He challenged them, pushing each to go beyond the level they had achieved, to be better, clearer, more certain, more convincing as they improved their link with Spirit.

At the end of the day, one participant, stood and passed on to David a message from someone in Spirit whom he knew. Montague Keen, the English psychical researcher, who had been so instrumental in bringing attention to David’s development of physical mediumship, confirmed his continued existence and passed on words of encouragement and information regarding David’s physical phenomena work and séances of which no one other than David and Montague Keen were aware. Such was David’s skill in bringing out the qualities of peoples mediumship.

On Saturday evening, David gave a talk and demonstration of trance healing and psychic surgery. Over the course of the evening six members of the audience where brought forward to receive healing or surgery from the ‘Doctor’. Two days on, every one of them speak of meaningful change in their health and the medical conditions that they were suffering, ranging from knee damage needing complete replacement surgery, Crones Disease, facial paralysis, kidney disease, thyroid dysfunction, and chronic high blood pressure.

Then Sunday, with private readings, where each who spent time with David left, with tears of joy in their eyes, and hope in their hearts. “He brought to me my mother and talked of my childhood in Ireland’ said one. Another, again in tears reported ‘That was the most moving experience of my life’. Each sitter was brought into contact with loved ones and left in no doubt that they continued to love them and take an interest in their lives.

David’s visit ended with a talk and demonstration in the New Age Spiritualist Mission. Almost 90 people attended. Some had seen David on the Friday and wanted more. Others came for the first time. All left with a smile on their face, and excitement and hope in their hearts. Again David proved continuity of life. He left no one in doubt. Spirit was there, and, through the exceptional mediumship of David Thompson, they were speaking to their loved ones.
