COMMENTARY: MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS SHARE THEIR AFTERLIFE EXPERIENCES Doctors, nurses, and paramedics deal with life and death on a daily basis and sometimes witness afterlife-related phenomena. Hospice nurses frequently witness dying patients communicating with their deceased loved ones. Some nurses and cardiac surgeons are told by patients about veridical near-death experiences and others have after-death contacts with patients they had become close to. And many talk of receiving intuition and guidance which saves lives. This is in spite of a professional culture that vigorously promotes scientific materialism.
Medical doctors have been active in afterlife research for over 150 years and for the last twenty years more and more doctors and nurses have been bravely stepping forward to share their own experiences and to conduct scientific investigations of the experiences of patients. One of the most well-known is Dr. Pim Van Lommel who was recently awarded $300,000 for his prize-winning essay in the BICS contest. (Download a copy of his "The Continuity of Consciousness").
For some time IANDS (The International Association for Near-Death Experiences) has been working to train doctors and nurses to respond with empathy to the needs of people who experience NDEs, something that is being helped by many medical professionals having NDEs themselves.

"PHYSICIANS' UNTOLD STORIES" After a miraculous experience where he was given the knowledge that a patient needed a lung scan, which ultimately saved his life, Dr. Scott Kolbaba became intrigued by unexplained phenomena which many doctors see during their professional careers. He spent three years compiling this anthology of experiences by 27 physicians (he actually gathered experiences from 200). He is in the process of collecting stories for a second book. DR. JOHN L. TURNER During his career as a neurosurgeon in Hawaii, Dr. Turner's curiosity drove him to explore nontraditional healing techniques that broadened the scope of recovery for his patients. In his fascinating book, "Medicine, Miracles, and Manifestations" he describes the following:
1) how metaphysical events such as remote viewing, telepathy, consciousness, and life after death are all verifiable manifestations of the way the human brain interfaces with the universal consciousness;
2) that consciousness persists after the death of the physical body;
3) that our life is carefully planned before birth but there is an element of free will;
4) that we can interface with a spiritual world and with a collective human unconscious.
WILLIAM STAINTON MOSES AND HIS SPIRIT TEACHINGS William Stainton Moses (1839–92) was an Anglican clergyman who became an outstanding physical medium. On March 30, 1873, spirit messages started coming through his hand using automatic writing. Moses was told that he would receive an important body of teachings directed by Jesus who promised "further revelation of Truth, as well as for the purging away of the years of error". These teachings were eventually compiled in two books, 'Spirit Teachings' and 'More Spirit Teachings'. Both books are regarded as Spiritualism's greatest classics, containing the religious, philosophical, and ethical implications of Spiritualism, as viewed by the spirit world.
GEORGE HOPKINS DESCRIBES HIS HOMECOMING TO THE SPIRIT WORLD
