COMMENTARY: END OF LIFE EXPERIENCES In all cultures, more than 50% of the people who are conscious while dying say that they see their deceased loved ones waiting for them. Sometimes they say that they can see beautiful places in the spirit world and hear beautiful music.
There are several cases on record with the Society of Psychical Research where the spirit visitors were seen by others at the bedside of the dying person, occasionally by several persons at the same time:
• in one well-documented case a death-bed apparition was seen by the dying woman, Harriet Pearson, and three relatives who were caring for her (Journal of the Society for Psychical Research Feb 1904: 185-187)
• in another case of a young boy dying, two witnesses independently saw his recently deceased mother at the child's bedside (Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research, Volume 6 p.20 ).
Since the 1960s these "deathbed visions" have been widely studied, often by hospice nurses and doctors who are well aware of them. However, there is another aspect of end-of-life experiences that has only begun to be studied since 2011. These are "shared-death experiences" in which a person accompanies the dying person on their transition, witnessing their "welcome home celebration" and sometimes even witnessing their life review.

THE SHARED CROSSING PROJECT In 2011 William Peters, M. Ed, MFT, started the Shared Crossing Project whose mission is to positively transform relationships to death and dying through education and raising awareness about shared crossings and their healing benefits.
OUT-OF-BODY EXPERIENCES AND THE AFTERLIFE LANDSCAPE
Robert Monroe wrote three major books giving meticulous details about his OBEs. He described many different locations outside the body that he claims are worlds we may go to when we die. One of these is "The Park" which is sometimes described by those helping souls to transition.
SOUL COMPANION - A MEMOIR Towards the end of Judy Hilyard's 47-year career in critical care nursing, she learned to be an Anam Cara, a soul friend, offering extraordinary counseling to provide a peaceful death for others. In her book Soul Companion: A Memoir she explains how that led her to the ancient role of Anam Aira, one who can share the death experience of others at will. Judy set out to learn how to cross the Veil between physical life and death to assist souls in their transition. She did this by completing three residential programs at the Monroe Institute, in Faber, Virginia. Judy has been doing Anam Aira work for several years, helping hundreds of people—those about to pass over to the Other Side, those already there, and those still here in physical form. MEDIUM JOHN HOLLAND ON DEATHBED VISIONS
John writes: "Even my mom had a Deathbed Vision toward the end of her life. One day, she was sitting up in her hospital bed, quite coherent, and said quite excitedly, 'Johnny! Guess who came to see me today for a visit?' I started reeling off name after name of different people in her life that I could think of. All she kept saying was, 'Nope, nope . . . Nope!' Finally, she blurted out, 'Wayne came to visit!'
Wayne was her first love who’d passed some 25 years ago. 'What did he want?' I asked her quietly, sitting down on the bed to hold her hand. She went on to tell me how she’d seen him sitting at the end of her bed in his sailor uniform, handsome and young as she remembered him. RUSSELL TARG SHARES HOW HE BECAME CONVINCED THAT HIS DAUGHTER ELIZABETH HAD SURVIVED DEATH Russell Targ, a laser physicist, cofounded the remote viewing research program at SRI International. He is the author and coauthor of several books about nonlocal consciousness and psychic functioning. After his daughter Elisabeth Targ died, several people received communications from Elisabeth, particularly Russell's writing partner, and close friend of Elisabeth, Jane Katra. He tells Jeffrey Mishlove that it was one particular message that finally convinced him of the reality of Elisabeth's post-mortem survival.
COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER WHO HAS TRANSITIONED
For those who do not know the research literature, it is often a surprise to learn that it is very common for a person to be in active contact with a partner who has transitioned. Dr. W.D. Rees, a British physician found that of a sample of widows in Wales, forty- seven percent had experiences—often repeatedly over many years—that convinced them that their dead husbands had been in contact with them (Rees 1971: 37-41). An earlier British experiment by Dr. P. Marris (1958) had found a figure of fifty percent. Dr. Melvin Morse, a pediatrician who has done many studies of death and dying, claims that it is rare for someone to lose a child and not see them again in a death-related vision (Morse 1994:135).
DR. JAMIE TURNDORF ON 'LOVE NEVER DIES'
Jamie talks about the false belief that we have to wait until we die to reconnect with our loved ones in spirit. She explains how her husband (a former Jesuit priest) has been in close communication with her since the moment he died. Jamie's book "Love Never Dies" explains how this communication can be used to reconnect, resolve unfinished business, and make peace with the deceased.
DR. CRAIG HOGAN'S SELF-GUIDED AFTERLIFE CONNECTIONS
Craig claims that "today, most people are able to have afterlife communication with loved ones who have crossed over." One of the most successful methods is Self-guided Afterlife Connections. It uses a procedure available free on the Internet that anyone can go through in their home, at any time. It is 86% successful in helping people have connections.
One of the participants in the early research study wrote:" As soon as I got to stage three, I was able to connect. I had clear visuals of my son in Spirit, Nick. I was also able to talk with him and feel him. We went to the Astral plane. We traveled to Eternity. Nick showed me things that I could never imagine. LOVE AFTER LIFE
William J. Murray and Mary Beth Spann Mank claim that they have been able to overcome debilitating grief following the loss of their respective spouses, Irene and Paul. They have discovered ways to continue and extend their relationships with their much-loved partners, a subject which is the focus of their Facebook Group 'Love After Life' which now has almost two thousand members. .
HOSPICE NURSE JULIE GETTING THE MESSAGE OUT ON TIKTOK
Julie McFadden has been a hospice nurse for 7 years after more than 10 years as an ICU nurse. She wanted to find a way to open up conversations on death and dying. She considered creating a podcast or a blog but on a family visit, she discovered TikTok and decided that it was a quick and easy platform to get her message across. By adding Instagram as well, Julie has created a whole community of death doulas and hospice nurses, all with a common goal of opening conversations about death. The platform now has a following of 1.4 million subscribers. Watch videos.

Here's one for the horse lovers. A beautiful story of love and trust between Emma and Mikko, a wild horse that she rescued. Where others thought he was too much trouble, her patience and kindness have led to an amazing bond.
DEFENDING YOUR LIFE 'Defending Your Life' is a 1991 romantic comedy-fantasy film about a man who dies and arrives in the afterlife only to find that he must stand trial and justify his lifelong fears in order to advance to the next phase of life, or be sent back to earth to do it again. Daniel and the rest of the recently deceased are offered many Earth-like amenities and activities in the city while they undergo their judgment processes—from all-you-can-eat restaurants (which cause no weight gain and serve the best food) to bowling alleys and comedy clubs.
1) In all my readings, this is exactly what the "deceased" are trying to tell us. They still exist. They are still very much alive - just in a different energy form.
