COMMENTARY: WAKING FROM THE MATERIALIST TRANCE
Our society seems to have collective amnesia about the purpose of life. We are all on a train hurtling into the unknown and very few people think to ask where it came from and where it's going.
Some blessed souls seem to have been born with the knowledge that they existed before this life and remain in contact with other worlds. Many children seem to have the intuitive knowledge of "imaginary friends" and of other lives. However, in most cases, the memories fade by about age 5.
For most people, it seems to be either the death of a loved one or a spiritually transformative experience (such as a near-death or out-of-body experience) that jolts us out of the trance of normal life. The fortunate ones use the experience as a stimulus to investigate - often turning first to religion and then to a wider investigation.
Thanks to the Internet there are more resources than ever available to help people find information, teachers, fellow explorers, and support to make meaning out of the journey. But much more is needed, particularly when it comes to grief.
CLINICALLY DEAD MAN SHOWN THE TRUTH Peter Panagore found himself on a frozen mountain, trapped in a deadly survival situation. As he fell asleep from the cold, he felt himself being pulled out of his body and into a vast, dark void. There, he encountered a giant door and heard the voice of God confirming his death. Faced with the fear of leaving his family, he was shown a love so deep it transcended everything. What he experienced in that moment changed his life forever, but he remained silent about it for nearly 20 years.
IS THE SOUL REAL? A NEUROSCIENTIST MAKES THE CASE
Many scientists and doctors believe that there is no such thing as the soul. Dr. Michael Egnor, a neurosurgeon, presents the case that the brain alone does not explain the mind. Based on modern neuroscience and his extensive surgical experience, he argues that there is a spiritual soul that transcends the brain. In this video he discusses his new book that came out this week: The Immortal Mind: A Neurosurgeon’s Case for the Existence of the Soul.
THE IMPORTANCE OF CONTINUING BONDS In 1996, Klass, Silverman, and Nickman shed light on an important bereavement concept in the book Continuing Bonds: New Understandings of Grief. They claim that traditional grief therapy aims at "cutting bonds with the deceased, thereby freeing the survivor to reinvest in new relationships in the present" and that "holding on to the deceased" is seen as pathological.
They suggested that it is much more normal and effective in reducing grief for the bereaved to continue their bond with the deceased. Read more.
THE START OF THE FOREVER FAMILY FOUNDATION
Phran and Bob Ginsberg founded the Forever Family Foundation following the death of their daughter Baily. They were parents who were attending a grief support group with other parents but found that as soon as anyone began to talk about the afterlife the organisers shut them down. The parents began to gather together in the parking area to share their after-death contacts and signs from their children.

A PSYCHIATRIST TALKS ABOUT AFTER-DEATH CONTACTS Dr. Daniel Benor used to think that people who had after-death contacts were suffering delusions until he read an article in the American Journal of Psychiatry in 1988 that claimed that two out of three people experienced them and that they were extremely helpful.
DR. ANABELA CARDOSO'S BOOK: "FRIEDEL'S CONVERSATIONS WITH THE DEAD" Dr. Anabela Cardoso is a retired Portuguese diplomat and a pioneer in Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) and Direct Radio Voices (DRV). In 2000 Dr. Cardoso founded the ITC Journal, of which she remains Editor-in-Chief. Her recent book "Friedel’s Conversations with the Dead" is the fascinating story of Friedrich Jürgenson (1903-1987) who became interested in EVP when he heard his mother's voice on a new tape that he was using to record bird song.
TV personalities sought him out and he was the subject of TV shows, a film, and documentaries in Europe. He also produced and directed his own documentaries, became a regular guest at the Vatican and painted portraits of two popes that still hang in the Vatican today. Pope Paul VI later agreed that the voices were not of earthly origin (or demonic) and were indeed the voices from the dead. Read more.
FRIEDRICH JURGENSON THROUGH ITC
In 1988/89, Adolf Homes began receiving texts and images of deceased people via radio, TV, telephone (on its answering machine, too), and the elderly C64 computer. He received messages about upcoming contacts from his mother in spirit so that he could record them (source Ernst Senkowski on Mark Macy's worlditc.org). He recorded an image of Friedrich Jurgenson, received on his TV screen. On the right is a photograph of Jurgenson for comparison.
